“Frangio was running as if she had grown wings on her feet. Sometimes she touched the sky and sometimes the earth, to warn the villagers to save whatever could still be saved. ‘Pirates, pirates... the devils of the sea have appeared... pirates!’”

Only two moments were needed, and human screams and shouts began to emerge from the rocks. It was as if the land itself had gained a mouth and voice and was rushing to warn the people of the impending danger. ‘Fire the bombs, fire the bombs!’ shouted the terrified people with one voice, urging the island's guard to fire the two cannon shots. This was the signal, so that everyone outside the Castle could hear it and rush to lock themselves within its safety.”

A very beautifully structured novel, with intense emotions and powerful imagery. The story may be “easy” to follow, but it hides many historical elements that make you think.
From 19th-century Kimolos and the slave markets of Alexandria to the present day and the pain of memory loss, Petroulakis composes a tender and moving narrative.
A story about music, memory, and the invisible threads that connect souls. Mr. Petroulakis consistently maintains value in his writing. He always has something meaningful to say.

Amazing book! I read it in two days. I was anxious, I couldn't wait! I also bought the book "The Shipwreck" by the same author and I intend to start it immediately. It has been classified among my favorite books. Beautiful images, everything came alive before me like a movie. So vivid and so real.
