Description

The chestnut tree, a tree particularly widespread throughout the mountainous region of Greece, is considered an important beekeeping plant due to the excellent quality of pollen and the high nutritional value of the nectar it produces.

Chestnut honey is a special variety of honey with characteristics of honeydew honey. The sugar-rich honeydew results from the chestnut nectar and the honeydew secretions produced by aphids that settle on the underside of the tree's leaves.

Its taste is intense, with a slightly bitter aftertaste that persists and accompanies the strong impression created by its aroma.

Chestnut honey can remain in liquid form for a long time due to its high fructose content and low glucose levels.

The high nutritional value of chestnut honey lies in the fact that it is rich in trace elements and amino acids. It is rich in trace elements such as potassium, magnesium, manganese, barium, and tannins which act as antioxidants.
