Description

Thoma first came to Athens in the mid-1970s - it was the beginning of summer. The night before, he saw another dream, like the ones he often had, which referred to future events that eventually came true.

Spring of 1990, late in the afternoon, as dusk falls... I take the Thou-Than-Kolokynthos tram, the one named after poet Michalis Katsaros, to go to Kolokynthos under the bridge of Kolokynthos... Thon, as the tram is called, only he knows which tram and which Kolokynthos... we pass by Karaiskaki Square and the statue of the general is missing, located in another area opposite the Panathenaic Stadium... there was no tram in 1990... it was abolished during Konstantinos Karamanlis's time and operated again under his namesake nephew... the Kolokynthos bridge is an artificial construction...

I don't have a clear picture of where I got the tram from, what I paid, if I paid, and where I want to go... the stop's sign as the starting point was either missing or doesn't exist anymore... the times are confusing without a past, with the present and future being uncertain...

Kolokynthos, when I arrive, if I arrive at all, is not where I have been many times before... Albanian refugees stole it, as the boy told me, abandoned in the roadside ditch... the boy has no name, nor does the street... the boy is missing a leg, and on the street, there is a lack of perspective and depth of field...

The miserable thieves steal the bright names of insignificant streets, and Kolokynthos is a black hole, like an ashtray... the Holy Virgin of Kolokynthos has been turned upside down like a pumpkin, subject to invisible forces...
