"The small house with the slate stone roof and the half-lowered blind at the window looked as if it was winking at Chief Guard Strachitz from the edge of the forest where it stood.

It was a clear, freezing night. Not a trace of cloud blocked the light of the full moon, which illuminated the policemen’s path like a spotlight and, despite the late hour, created the feeling of dusk.

In recent days, it had snowed heavily; it had stopped for a while the previous morning only to start again in the evening, so it was almost impossible to move forward without making noise. Strachitz’s boots, like those of the policewoman following him, creaked with every step up the hill toward the last house at the dead end. At least someone had spread gravel, so the slope hadn’t turned into an icy slide. Even so, there was still a risk of slipping. Strachitz had once again drunk the wrong way. Too much alcohol, far too little water."

  • I got the collector's edition. Awful translation by Eirini Georga. It's like they put it into Google translate. Simply tragic. What a shame for the book. As for the book itself, I can say it's quite mediocre. Only at the end did it keep me just enough to find out what happened. Overall, bad.

Spoiler free: Starting with the cover, I have to say that it was a very special collector's edition, making the book have 2 covers which makes it even more unique.
Book: Sebastian managed to make 2 seemingly unrelated stories have a common flow where in the end everything makes sense. This book is not like the others, it conveys many messages that I did not expect could be conveyed in a psychological thriller, truly bravo.
SOS: Read the acknowledgments as well as the interview at the end of the book, it is especially important for us Greeks.

  • First time reading a work by Fitzek, however I don't think I will choose him again. The story was nice, nice plot and nice character development with all its twists, Overall I liked the plot, what disappointed me was the writing style.

In the book, two stories are narrated simultaneously, the author alternates the stories every 10-15 pages max, which makes you get lost, combined with the fact that information is constantly being revealed based on the events.

Extremely interesting story, twists and a fast-paced flow! I finished it in 2 days. Fitzek is a guarantee!

I wanted an easy-to-read book for relaxation before sleep and it was ideal. I didn't get bored for a second. The reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is some 'far-fetched' points in the plot that, in my opinion, serve no purpose.
