The Battle of Menina is historically positioned towards the end of the Occupation period, during a time when EDES was trying to establish its dominance in the wider region of Thesprotia.

This book aims to present this specific confrontation within the broader historical context of guerrilla warfare conducted during the Occupation, with particular reference to the development of the resistance in Epirus and the political rivalry between Zevgos's organization and the EAM/ELAS organization.

Special emphasis is given to the presence of the Muslim Albanian-speaking minority of Tsimades in Thesprotia. Their collaboration with Italian and German Occupying forces ultimately undermined their relations with their Christian fellow citizens.

The issue of the Tsimades minority was definitively resolved with their expulsion from Greek territory by EDES forces.
