The first publications of the thematic journalistic texts of Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) in serial form in the Athens press are the written witnesses of the phases undergone by the ideological and social formation of the thinker Kazantzakis during the period 1925-1946.

These include his reports from Soviet Russia regarding the political, economic, and educational current affairs of the Soviet regime in 1925, about the Spanish Civil War during the first half of its development from Spain, and also his travelogue "A Journey to the Peloponnese," which he wrote and published in installments during the last two months of 1937 in the columns of the newspaper Kathimerini. This also includes Kazantzakis’s manuscript "Traveling. England" (autumn 1939-1940), from which emerged the publication of his book Traveling III. England (1941) about the social character of Great Britain on the eve of World War II, and the series "Traveling" of his articles in Kathimerini when the Battle of Britain began in the summer of 1940.

With these texts, Kazantzakis conveyed significant aspects of Greek foreign and domestic policy at decisive moments in Greek and European history during the first fifty years of the 20th century. The authenticity and character of the "contemporary testimony" represented by the first publications of his so-called journalistic texts in the Athens press provide the researcher with a material advantage in the field of historical and literary research over his travel books, the writing of which followed.

Today, their independent literary publication should be realized, with the necessary historical and factual commentary. So that the contemporary reader can know and accordingly appreciate the ideological stance shaped and served through the press by one of the most important Greek writers in response to decisive events in Greek and European history in the first half of the 20th century.
