In the spring of 1821, the radical circle of Koraïsists publishing the magazine "Melise" in Paris release their third issue. Included in this is the bold proclamation of their third open competition, dedicated to the timeless negative role of the Orthodox clergy in the Greek area.
Both this competition, as well as the previous ones announced over the past two years, seem to follow a faithful and yet exciting pattern: The topics of the awards belong to the same thematic as the equally inspired and written texts of Koraïs from the same years.
Thus, the competition of the latest issue is inspired by the Council of Three Bishops (London, 1820), a work with the obvious aim of criticizing the harmful writings of the Western Church, which nevertheless appears to criticize the entire Clergy in general, including the Orthodox, and even the Patriarch Gregory V of that time.
The publication of the Council is a gift of philosophy to religion, and with an unexpectedly timely manner. Secularists must discern "the good shepherds from the wolves," some of whom openly and secretly praise philosophy and communicate with those who disdain it and flatter its persecutors.
Koraïs indicates the stance that the "peaceful philosopher" should take towards them: to despise their arrows and slanders, to continue serving his homeland, to enlighten the uneducated crowd, to reveal their riches and their "deceitful life."
