The result of many years of research in the three institutions preserving the archive of C. P. Cavafy (the Cavafy Archive of the Onassis Foundation, which holds the main body of the material, the Papoutsakis Archive of the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive, and the Historical Archives of the Benaki Museum), this edition, supervised by the Catalan Hellenist and Cavafy scholar Eusebi Ayensa, presents in two volumes the complete poetic work of the Alexandrian poet. It follows the original texts much more faithfully and incorporates all the poet’s revisions, both in manuscripts and in the pamphlets he printed during his lifetime at various printing presses in Alexandria.

The extensive notes include abundant unpublished material—first versions of well-known poems, C. P. Cavafy’s commentary on his own poems, and more—that comes to light for the first time, enriched with the most significant new bibliographic contributions to the work of the indisputably greatest modern Greek poet.
