This short book is a narrative of the history of fascism: with relatively few and simple words, I try to describe the adventures, aspects, and characteristics of fascist ideology, shed light on dark points and misunderstandings, and evaluate a set of beliefs and attitudes, some of which — nationalism, populism, authoritarianism — are still active and spread within ideological systems considered "anti-fascist".
Among the issues I analyze are the similarities and differences between fascism and Nazism, the intellectual roots of fascist ideology, and its relationships with socialism, patriarchy, political and social conservatism, populism, and radical Islam.
Although fascism was born under specific historical conditions, I mainly focus on the case of Italy, the book presents its different manifestations across various countries during the 20th century and its evolution into the 21st.
Fascism, the history of an ideology, is aimed at those who have a general idea of the subject and wish to deepen their understanding of its history and why fascism continues to haunt us. It may also be useful to those who tend to label anyone who does not embrace their ideas as "fascist," as well as to those who unquestioningly accept fascists' actions simply because they do not self-identify as fascists.
