Description

The album unfolds a scene of portraits of Greek and foreign creators who have marked the intellectual and cultural life of modern Greece, alongside some of the photographer's subtle flaws.

"There is an ease in photographing people of art and simultaneously a difficulty. The ease lies in the fact that you don't always need to introduce them; they inhabit the public sphere of our experiences and dreams. Their appearance sometimes triggers a positive reception almost regardless of the quality of the photograph, while they are often familiar with being in front of the lens. The difficulty lies in moving beyond their nominal value, their crafted persona, and often within a short time, capturing something of their personal aura, that fluid space between the individual and the creator."

Ilias Mpourgiotis recognizes the ease but turns to the difficulty, and with this choice in mind, he attempts to introduce us to some of the heroes of our intellectual journeys. At the same time, he reinforces the belief or pleasant illusion that another world is still available: imaginative, inspired, alternative, oriented not towards the, dominant today, raw plainness of utilitarianism but towards the poetry of the human soul.
