Description

“I remember as a kid buying some cards that depicted in a humorous way the character and style of each of the twelve gods. While all the other goddesses were beauties – Aphrodite with her sheer fabrics and her seduction, Artemis with her bow and quiver, Athena with her helmet and armor – Hera was a crying mess. It reminded me of the worst of my classmates’ moms. I acquired such an impression of the second-in-command of the twelve gods, the “Hera period,” as they called her then, the perfect wife, etc., etc. I had to read volumes of mythology and history as I grew up to shake off this childhood image. Which, in reality, is the image we all have of Hera...”

“Our ancient ancestors held this view of family life, and they carried this into the marriage of the top duo of their pantheon: Zeus wandering around, Hera standing with a lit candle. Morally, they never even considered making Hera cheat or be unfaithful. So Hera only went with her husband and only had children with him. And even if some of the other gods had Hera as their mother without Zeus’s involvement, our ancestors insisted, through mythological sources, that these happened without the goddess’s infidelity. He was born differently, with a gust of wind (Hephaestus), or another was born because she supposedly got pregnant smelling a fragrant flower – does that remind you of anything? (That was Ares.)”

Works and days, unknown aspects of an entire world that isn’t so different from our own. Tricks, intrigues, loves, seductions, transformations, schemes, quarrels, revenge, surprises, and hilarious mythological events involving mostly the girls of Olympus – who were much more women than we imagine or know. Since we do not truly know Greek mythology, but it’s time to learn. All while having fun...”

Genre: Greek Mythology / Humor

Tone: A lighthearted and humorous look at the strangest and "craziest" stories of the gods of Olympus.

  • In the book you will meet

    • The adventures and jealousies of Hera, the wife of Zeus.

    • Unknown and entertaining stories from the world of Greek mythology.

    • The human and often irrational side of the ancient gods.

    Why We Loved It:

It is a book that makes you laugh out loud while simultaneously learning mythology without getting tired. The author takes the classic myths and presents them in a modern, casual way that makes them incredibly appealing. It is the ideal read to relax and see the gods of Olympus from a completely different, more "human" perspective.

This book is for you if...

You like mythology stories but want to read them in a funnier and more friendly way, away from the style of a school textbook.

    Read an excerpt

"Hera, as we all know, was the official wife of Zeus. And as we all know, Zeus was not exactly the best husband when it came to fidelity. But Hera was not one of those women who sat idly by. The 'divine madness' that prevailed on Olympus was unprecedented, with espionage, transformations, and punishments that would make even the best soap operas jealous.

In this second part, we dive even deeper into the stories that teachers at school usually rushed through. Here, there are not only heroic battles and serious faces. There are gods who get offended over nothing, who take revenge in the most improbable ways, and who, at the end of the day, resemble us more than we would like to admit.

Get ready for a journey to Olympus where logic goes out the window and absolute chaos takes its place. From incredible scenes of jealousy to the wildest transformations, mythology proves to be much more entertaining than you imagined."

This review is about the publication date: 2024

While the author tried to have an accessible approach mainly for younger people, it became so contrived that the book after a while becomes particularly tiring. So much effort is made to make the text light through (coarse and bordering on stereotypical and sexist) humor that it distracts you from the essence of the text. The effort was so much that, let someone correct me, the labors of Hercules went from twelve to ten at some point! Definitely far below my expectations
