There are songs that depict types of the Greek far-right underground, who suppressed Greek workers in Germany during the 1960s. You will still find such types sitting comfortably in the back benches of the Greek Parliament today.
There are also songs that warn from the depths of half a century about the emerging Nazi resurgence in Germany and others that mock the contradictions as well as NATO's expansionist tendencies at the expense of the then Soviet Union. And here, the connections to today are easy to see.
Some songs subsequently follow immigrants in their daily lives, at work and during leisure time. Finally, others refer to the innate tendency of the working class to find its allies and identify its enemies. And, to the displeasure of some, to shake hands and rally together passionately beyond national and religious differences.
Nevertheless, I wish the day will come soon when the content of songs like "Letters from Germany" becomes outdated.
