Description

A book and 5 songs about Ioannis Kapodistrias

"Where are you going? What chaos are you preparing to enter?" the performance questions.

"Konto Nano" was the affectionate nickname of the governor.

The Small Bear presents the new edition with the text and simultaneously the digital release of the 5 original songs from the performance “Ove Vai Conte Nano? Ove vai?”, directed by Thodoris Gonis, with sets and costumes by Andreas Georgiadis, as part of the events “All Greece a Culture” by the Ministry of Culture, in August 2025 at the Palamidi Fortress integrated into the program of the 2nd Nafplion Festival.

The new edition, containing the text of the performance by distinguished lyricist and director Thodoris Gonis, part of the Small Bear's theatrical series, is based on authentic writings and dialogues of the era (“Historical Memories” by Nikolaos Dragoumis, “Apologies for Kapodistrias” by Georgios Tertsetis, “Military Memoirs” by Nikolaos Kasomoulis, “Historical Anthology” by Yannis Vlachogannis, “History of the Greek Revolution” by Thomas Gordanis, “Babylonia” by D.K. Vyzantios, “Modern Greek History” by Apostolos E. Vakalopoulos, etc.), as well as original texts and songs by Thodoris Gonis.

In the performance “Ove Vai Conte Nano? Ove vai?” Ioannis Kapodistrias returns to the fateful city through a “musico-theatrical Babel”.

Two actors and five musicians take the stage at Palamidi, in the dungeons, for a confrontation with History.

The show is modular and primarily musical.

The 1827 Tripoli, with Dimalas’ lemon grove, becomes the starting point. There, in a Greece torn apart by Ibrahim and Kiuṭaḥī, representatives of the newly formed state eat raw chickpeas and quarrel over power, suffering from intense stomach pains as documented by contemporary testimonies. There, at the Third National Assembly of the Greeks, Count Ioannis Kapodistrias was elected Governor of Greece and tasked with bringing order to a country resembling a scene from Byzantium’s “Babylonia”. With the sunrise on Sunday, January 8, 1828, celebratory cannon shots from the castles and bastions of Nafplio herald the arrival of Warspite. The arrival of Kapodistrias.
