January. Fjällbacka is frozen. A half-naked girl runs through the snowy forest. When she finally reaches the road, the passing driver doesn’t have time to react or steer. By the time Inspector Patrick and his team are notified of the accident, the girl’s identity has already been confirmed. She had disappeared four months earlier on her way home from the local riding school, and no one had seen her since. Her body bears signs of incredible violence…
The police soon discover that three more girls have disappeared from neighboring towns, but there are no new leads. And when Erica randomly uncovers a connection with an old murder case, Patrick is forced to see the investigation through an entirely new prism.
“I struggled to finish The Lion Tamer, but it is the book I am truly proud of. It took me two years to write it during a period in my life when a lot was happening at once. It is darker and harsher than my previous books. In recent years, the press has repeatedly reported on cases of women being held captive and abused. The central themes in this book are missing girls, serial killers, and family tragedies from the past. The idea for the book arose from the following image: a young girl chained to a wall in a filthy basement. That sparked my imagination and began the journey for my ninth novel featuring Patrick and Erica.”
