While the EU has declared as a common energy goal - incomprehensible, of course, to many of us - the zeroing of carbon dioxide emissions (and thus the zeroing of the use of fossil fuels) for the foreseeable future, it appears to be deeply concerned about the potential long-term closure of the Strait of Hormuz!
But why? Simply because oil and natural gas continue to be essential elements for its energy survival. So where did all these proclamations about supposed "green development" go? Were all these ultimately empty words that plunged many European economies into anti-populist inflation due to unprecedentedly high electricity prices?
Europe made two fundamentally tragic mistakes. One was its decision to become independent from fossil fuels. It thus criminalized the use of lignite and coal and banned the extraction of oil and natural gas on its territory. Therefore, fracking (hydraulic extraction from shale) was prohibited in Europe.
