Description

With the title Poetry and Poetics and a collection of 82 texts, Antonis Fostieris, one of the most important representatives of the iconic '70s Generation, presents in his new book his views, positions, and experiences from his long-standing involvement at the forefront of poetic practice.

The majority of the texts consist of conversations and interviews that have appeared over time in mainly literary publications, dealing with numerous issues related to Poetry (as an abstract concept or embodied in writing) and Poetics (as the diverse process of this embodiment). Subjects range from the function of poetic language to its connections with tradition, experiential background, playful, cryptic, or social character, among others, articulated in a vivid, essayistic style with depth but also clarity and liveliness.

Covering linguistic, stylistic, technical, and methodological aspects, as well as affinities with other arts, philosophy, and science; from questions about its extralinguistic scope or the potency of expressive schemes and intertextuality to the roles of inspiration, the reader, the internet, and criticism. And much more.

Besides the main body of Conversations, which constitute a kind of "essayistic dialogues," the book also includes a section of "Monologues," texts on related topics that extend into neighboring areas such as language, translation, literary movements, the '70s Generation, etc.
