The book highlights a social and political theology that does not remain detached from society and its issues. Instead, it is tested and transformed when encountering culture with its various expressions and identities which it sometimes includes, sometimes (re)shapes, and sometimes excludes. Through this encounter, the tensions, possibilities, and limits of theological discourse in the public sphere are revealed.
From the relationship between theology and literature to contemporary forms of political theology and gender theories, from feminist critique and female and male identities to the concept of "Hellenic Orthodoxy" and the tensions within the Orthodox tradition, the chapters of the book examine the dynamic and often ambiguous presence of religion in the public space.
Special emphasis is given to Religious Education and the challenges it has faced over the last two decades: institutional reforms, social conflicts, emerging gender and cultural sensitivities, as well as the question of the role of the theologian-educator today.
In this context, theology is called to confront its public responsibility, not as a closed system of certainties, but as a critical, dialogical, and pedagogically liberating discourse.
