Maurice and Marilyn are a strange couple. He is lonely, awkward, and obsessive; she is charismatic and ambitious. But they share the same fear: not to let their lives go to waste. And they dream, as we all do at some point in our lives, of leaving everything behind and going far away.
Most of us stay with the dream. However, in June 1972, Maurice and Marilyn literally set sail. For almost a year, everything goes well, until a whale in the Pacific strikes their boat, making a hole and sinking it beneath the waves.
Alone for months on a tiny inflatable raft, hungry and exhausted, Maurice and Marilyn must not only find ways to stay alive, but also to coexist, as their inner demons surface and their marriage is tested as never before. They may have escaped the world, but they cannot escape themselves.
A riveting adventure at sea and at the same time a heartbreaking love story, which makes us wonder why we love difficult people and who we become when we are pushed to the most extreme limits one can imagine.
