The Ionian Islands or Heptanese are a path between the ancient and modern worlds, a land of myth and freedom, a continuous historical development, a borderland, the eternal gateway of East and West, a strategic crossroads, a place of spirit, action, and creativity. Each island has its own significant history and is a unique point of reference. The Heptanese rarely experienced Ottoman conquest; they lived under various Western dominations and developed rare spiritual and entrepreneurial activity. They participated in struggles against the Ottomans (Battle of Nafpaktos, Orloff Revolts, etc.) and in the 1821 Revolution, driven by the desire for freedom and national independence under Mother Greece and aiming for social liberation. Through processes of political and national consciousness awakening, the movement of radicals blossomed.
