The rhymed Thanatikon of Rhodes by Emmanouil/Manolis Limenitis (formerly known as Georgilla) refers to the plague epidemic that broke out in the knight-controlled city of Rhodes in October 1498.
Following a traditional Christian worldview, which attributes natural and other disasters to the sins of people, primarily to free eroticism, gambling, and greed, the poet presents the epidemic as a just divine punishment.
