Description

Those who will live a hundred, two hundred years after us and will scorn us for living so foolishly and so meaninglessly - they may find a way to be happy; we, however...

Professor Serebryakov arrives at his estate in the Russian province, along with his young second wife, Elena. The estate is maintained by his daughter from his first marriage, Sonya, and her uncle, Vanya (the brother of the professor's first wife). Vanya is experiencing a desperate and hopeless love for Elena, as is the doctor Astrov, who frequently visits the estate. Elena, beautiful and attractive, is indifferent to their feelings. Sonya experiences a silent love for the charming doctor Astrov.

The balance shifts dramatically, lost dreams and unfulfilled desires make their appearance, causing problems in the life of the estate. The characters experience the wear and tear of everyday life, the mistakes, the boredom, while facing life almost with a surreal quality. The professor's announcement regarding the sale of the estate will forever change the balance, and nothing will ever be the same again.

Chekhov wrote the play "The Forest Demons" in 1880. Several years later, he revised the text and delivered it to Stanislavski under the title "Uncle Vanya". The play premiered in 1899, directed by Stanislavski himself, starring himself, his wife Lilina, and Olga Knipper, Chekhov's wife. The play "Uncle Vanya" is considered one of the masterpieces of world dramaturgy; it is human and deeply poetic.

Once again, Chekhov skillfully portrays characters balancing between the tragic and the comic, happiness and unhappiness, hope and despair. Chekhov referred to his work "Uncle Vanya" as "scenes from village life in four acts".
