This work represents an attempt to contribute to the course and evolution of the Religious Education subject, in an era of constant changes and social ambiguities, combined with the uncontrolled dynamics presented by new technologies, in an increasingly unpredictable changing world.
There is also a strong ongoing question regarding "why" this subject is constantly under attack, both internationally—where its course and profile seem somewhat clearer—and mainly in the Greek context, particularly in Greek education.
The main question revolves around "what is the 'dangerous' aspect of this subject that leads to such frequent and intense opposition against it, raises so many questions, provokes so many discussions, and ultimately, how seriously the prospect of its continuous 'reworking,' even abolishment and exclusion from the official Curricula of the established educational system, is considered?"
In any case, this book does not aim to "theologize," nor to "educate" or "teach pedagogically" in the sense of providing ready-made educational "recipes" for immediate instructional consumption. The primary goal is to contribute to the reflection of every interested party, as well as to society as a whole, regarding the dynamics of the Religious Education subject, as an important factor for understanding and realizing the functionality of religion in individual and social life, as well as the problems of modern humanity.
A broader yet simultaneously more specific expectation arising from this writing is a minimal, but in every case, well-intentioned and in the spirit of Christian love, conciliation, and collaboration, contribution to the dialogue concerning the issue of Religious Education, through a systematic and scientifically-based approach without biases or transgressions of the norms of scientific ethics.
The author is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Primary Education of the University of Ioannina, specializing in "Didactic Methodology." He was born in Thessaloniki and is a graduate of the Pedagogical Academy of Mytilene, the Department of Primary Education of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and holds a Master's Degree and a Doctorate from the same University. He also holds a European Diploma in education and training of teachers from the European Union and has studied at the Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
He served as a teacher in Primary Education, was the Responsible for Environmental Education in Primary Education of the Chalkidiki Prefecture, and served for 8 years in the role of School Consultant for Primary Education in the Pieria Prefecture. He has also taught independently at the Universities of Western Macedonia and Thessaly and has authored eight pedagogically oriented books, while a series of his articles have been published in reputable Greek and international scientific journals. He has participated in numerous conferences in Greece and abroad and is a member of the Pedagogical Society of Greece, the Hellenic Union of Educators for Environmental Education, as well as the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle in Thessaloniki.
