The planet of Windhaven was not initially inhabited by humans, but was colonized after the crash of an Earth spaceship. It is a world made up of numerous small islands, a world of extreme weather conditions and sea monsters.
Communication between the scattered settlements was impossible until the discovery that, thanks to the low gravity and dense atmosphere, people could fly with the aid of metal wings made from the wreckage of the Earth spacecraft.
Many generations later, among the scattered islands that make up the watery world of Windhaven, no one has greater prestige than the Windwalkers, who with their silver wings carry news, gossip, songs, and stories. Romantic figures who cross dangerous oceans and defy unpredictable winds and fierce storms that could throw them from the sky and kill them at any moment.
They are also members of an increasingly elite caste, as the wings – always limited – become scarcer as the people who wear them are lost. Maris from Amberly, a fisherman's daughter, was adopted by a Windwalker, and all she wants in life is to fly in the skies. However, tradition dictates that the wings must go to her foster brother, Col, the legitimate son of the Windwalker. All Col wants is to become a bard and travel the world by sea. For this reason, Maris rebels and plunges into a difficult struggle against elitism, arrogance, and the unyielding traditions of Windwalker society.
