The author notes in the book's preface: Many times I yearned to write a few words about the old people of the East, but I always postponed it, finding various excuses. First, I said, let the children grow up who are small and require much care. When the children grew up, it was time to take care of our parents, and so again I had no time for writing. By the time our elders passed on to the next life, our children married and had their own kids. Well, shouldn’t we give a hand to let our grandchildren grow a little too?
Until one day I said to myself: Well, Grandma Myrsini, this is how life flows, and by the time you catch up with everything, your turn comes, and perhaps then with sadness you will think that there was something more you could have done, but out of negligence, you didn't. It's time to write about your ancestors, the suffering people of the East, for it is among them that you grew up.
