Manolis Korres' work is widely known and almost universally accepted. The quality and significance of his contribution have been recognized by scientific and governmental entities in Greece and abroad, which have bestowed upon him honorary distinctions such as the Bronze Medal of the Academy of Athens (1989), the Silver Medal of the Academie d' Architecture in Paris (1995), the Commander of the Order of the Phoenix of the Hellenic Republic, the Alexander von Humboldt Prize (2003), and recently the Silver Medal of the National Academy of Rome (Premio Internationale Feltrinelli, 2013). However, those of us who have had the opportunity to work closely with him can better appreciate his moral integrity, collegial solidarity, scientific versatility, but above all, the talent of a teacher that distinguishes him. For most of his colleagues, he is a friend and a dear companion in knowledge, and for his undergraduate and graduate students, he remains a spiritual father, the one who sets an example of noble competition, especially the one who transmits the passion for research.
