The drafting of another guide to Phaistos and the other archaeological sites in southern Central Crete is not unnecessary. All the monuments in the Messara are of world importance and testify to the significance of the region in all historical periods.

A recent guide to these monuments has not been published for ten years; however, numerous pieces of information have been added through recent excavations, research, investigations, and publications.
