Writing another book, a guide to Festos and the other archaeological sites of southern-central Crete, is not superfluous. All the monuments of the Messara are of primary interest and testify to the importance of this region throughout all historical phases.

A new guide to these monuments has not been published for over 10 years, while the excavations, research, studies, and recent publications have added a great number of new information.
