The Wheel of Time turns, and the Ages come and go, leaving behind memories that become legend. The legend fades and becomes myth; even the myth has long been forgotten when the Age that bore it returns.
In the Third Age, the Age of Prophecy, the World and Time stand suspended. All that was, all that will be, and all that is may fall into Shadow. Strange visitors arrive at the Two Rivers. In this isolated area, three young boys, Rand al'Thor, Mat Cauthon, and Perrin Aybara, eagerly await the upcoming festival of Bel Tine.
On the eve of it, however, monstrous Trollocs, creatures that have given their name even to wars, attack and pillage the village. The three friends, along with two local girls, Egwene and Nynaeve, and the mysterious Moiraine and Lan, flee into the night and head towards Tar Valon, where they will realize their unique role in shaping the destiny of the entire world. The forces of evil pursue them relentlessly, determined to follow their trail even to the Eye of the World.
