[...] The exhibition presented at the exhibition space of the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament for Parliamentarism and Democracy, titled "Folk Songs: History, Tradition, Identity," skillfully highlights the way folk songs are intertwined with the customs and rituals of the seasons (Twelve Days of Christmas, Carnival, spring and Easter cycle, summer solstice, etc.), as well as those that mark the changes and various stages of human life (birth, childhood, marriage, emigration, death). It also showcases the various types of songs, dances, and musical instruments that accompany them in different parts of Greece. Additionally, a special section is dedicated to the efforts of recording, studying, and researching this long-standing folk tradition.
The exhibition includes photographs, manuscripts, musical instruments, costumes, and recorded excerpts of folk songs, which originate from the Research Center of Greek Folklore of the Academy of Athens, the Musical Folklore Archive of M. Merlier, the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation "V. Papantonios," the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments, the Association "Friends of Music," the Lyceum of Greek Women, the Benaki Museum, the Museum-Archive of ERT, the Rizarios Foundation, the Society of Visual Arts "A. Tassos," and other institutions and private collections. [...]
