The defense and security of states are the result of many variables. They depend on the one hand on their own political capabilities - and what they do to increase them, and on the other hand on how neighboring states behave, always in relation to the broader international context.
The Greek nation is very close to areas of increasing volatility. The crises and new geopolitical alignments in the Balkans and the Middle East, with high or direct American involvement, but now also with a strongly competitive Russia, directly affect the course of Greece and Cyprus.
In a ranking of the problems of Greek foreign policy, there is no doubt that the Turkish revisionist policy remains, by far, the primary issue, expressed through words and actions. The ruling elites in Greece and Cyprus, especially in recent years, have sought to downplay and diminish it.
Despite the conciliatory nature and concessions of the Greek side, Turkish aggression remains strong, increasing entrapment and pressure.
