The collective volume "Auschwitz - The event and its memory" represents a unique effort within Greek society for a multifaceted reflection on a historically critical event, namely the systematically organized extermination of an entire people by a state authority, encapsulated in the key word "Auschwitz".

For decades, the silence was so loud, as if it had not vanished, through the implementation of the so-called "final solution", a thriving Jewish community in Thessaloniki, as if there were not thousands of our fellow citizens who lost their lives in the Nazi crematoria.

This is an endeavor of interdisciplinary investigation into how this critical event has been devalued or mythologized, an undertaking without omissions or relativizations, through the lens of the present.
