Description

January. Fjällbacka is frozen. A half-naked girl runs through the snowy forest and jumps onto the road. The passing driver has no time to react; he doesn't even have time to turn the wheel.

When Inspector Patrick and his team receive a signal about the accident, the girl's identity has already been confirmed. She had disappeared four months earlier on her way home from the local riding school, and no one has seen her since. Her body bears signs of unimaginable violence, and there is a possibility that she is not the last or the only victim.

At the same time, Erika is investigating an old family tragedy that led to the death of a man. She visits his wife, who was convicted of his murder, countless times, yet she can't determine what really happened. What is she hiding from her? Erika suspects that something is not right. It seems that the past casts a heavy shadow over the present.

I struggled to finish 'The Beast Tamer,' but it is the book I feel truly proud of. It took me two years to write during a time in my life when many things were happening simultaneously. It is darker and more brutal than my previous books. In recent years, cases of women being held captive and abused have been repeatedly reported in the media. Central themes in this book are missing girls, serial killers, and family tragedies of the past.

The idea for the book came from the following image: a young girl chained to a wall in a filthy basement. This sparked my imagination and began the journey of my ninth novel featuring Patrick and Erika.

Camilla Lackberg A plot that raises the pulse but sweetens the heart.

Val McDermid, author Thrilling and captivating at the same time.

  • This review is about the book: 7: The Lighthouse Keeper

Having read most of Läckberg's books, I can say that this one did not particularly impress me. Although it touches on important issues such as domestic violence, drug trafficking, and economic corruption, I believe that the unnecessary verbosity with parallel unfolding stories (as she is accustomed to in her books but with a different mastery) made me lose the essence of the plot. However, I liked the way she presented the end of the book, although it would not be the first book I would recommend to someone who has not read this author again.

In every new story, it gets better. It develops its characters, making them more complex and at the same time more human. It addresses issues that society rarely accepts to see. Its realism and cynicism are necessary ingredients for a crime novel, just as much as needed. Without exaggeration, it manages to create images that stay in the reader's mind. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves Scandinavian crime literature.

This review is about the book: 8: Angel of Death

An amazing detective novel written in such a everyday and accessible way and with such a structure that captivates you. Stories intertwine over the decades and in the end they come together artistically in a tragic and captivating way. Next-door heroes who seem strange at first glance, but who, in my opinion, are the crucial element that makes this book stand up to great authors of detective novels. One important element that stood out to me is that the author does not try to impress the reader with exaggerated action scenes, nor does she pull the plot out of thin air to make it appear complex. Instead, she successfully portrays the characters and gives them a distinct role in the plot. There were moments when I laughed at some dialogues or scenes, others when I was disturbed and anxious about what would happen on the next page. It was a book that held my interest and I would easily read it again. It was read in one breath and that says it all!
