Description & Specifications

Pikionis occasionally returns, more through his words, then with his sketches, and finally with the occasional photographs of the paths to the Acropolis […] because the quest for authentic voices, exceptional designs, and structured spaces is a necessity not only within but also beyond our borders.

In Dimitris Pikionis, we can say that the modern has functioned as a way of thinking and writing, as a one-way street capable of organizing our relationships with the world. Tradition appears as a personal, laborious processing of known and eternal data that seek their place in a world in transition, when visibly much has been lost, especially after World War II.

Through this duality, Pikionis balances himself in the modern world, in a slow approach to the subjects, where sometimes the modern serves as a frame of reference upon which the fragments of memory are placed, and at other times the rational element inherent in tradition, as rhythm, is studied, identified, and transcribed.

[...] These are the ways of the hand. The architectural work is studied and designed as if it has already existed, endured, and been narrated. The design phase seems to embrace all times of life, as a representation of an acceleration of rhythms, in order to define the way of coexistence with the surroundings and interaction with people and time.

Through such dynamics, Pikionis brings forth his own unity of the Greek heritage of arts to shape a personal dialogue with the world. In such a framework, where the personal perspective translates into writing and stone, it is difficult to speak of heritage, continuity, or of successors. We preferred the co-resonances, moments when individual Greek architects, during the life of the master, but also up to today, faced the process of design and construction in ways similar to Pikionis.
