Description & Specifications

This small bilingual book gathers texts that constituted the series of lectures at Expolangues held in Paris in January 2001. The theme was the intertwining of language, society, and history in Southern Europe. This series of lectures essentially announced the conference that took place in Thessaloniki on November 11-12, 2001, with the theme "Language, Society, History: The Balkans."

The annual participation of the Center for the Greek Language at Expolangues, which is organized in collaboration with the Directorate of International Educational Relations of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs, aims to showcase topics related to the Greek language abroad, through a perspective that is open and sensitive to the broader cultural events of the European Union.

The reception that these related publications - five in number - have received, both in Greece and abroad, confirms that this goal has been achieved. The bilingual nature of the publications not only ensures access to a broader, non-Greek-speaking audience but also serves the notion that the cultivation of a language is not promoted through an introverted isolationism but through terms of polyphony. And translation operates precisely in this direction.
