This translation of the Bible is a product of love for the word of God and the result of long-term collective work with a deep sense of responsibility. It is not intended for liturgical use; rather, it aims to assist the modern reader, especially the youth, for whom understanding the Hebrew text or the translation of the Septuagint and the original text of the New Testament is impossible or difficult, to approach, as reliably as possible, and to experience the always relevant and living Word of God.
The translation of the sacred text of the Old Testament is the result of a laborious and lengthy effort of approximately thirty years, the foundations of which were laid by the late professor of the Old Testament at the University of Athens and Director of the Apostolic Ministry, Vasilios Vellas. He had prepared the translation of twenty-two books from the Hebrew text into Katharevousa, the official language of the Greek state at that time, and made it available to the Biblical Society in 1968.
For the continuation of the work, a translation team was formed, consisting of university professors H. Oikonomou (coordinator of the program), N. Olympiou, N. Papadopoulos, P. Simota, and V. Tsakonas, who worked on the completion of the translation.
