Description

«If you take ten dogs and go leave them in a wilderness, in a desert where no living soul passes by, these dogs will within a few weeks turn back into wolves...». With the inscrutable twist that would follow a sunflower of the night, the art of Z.Z. -joyfully validated in this third book of hers, which is also her first novel- proves that one can write as if trying to unravel the enchantments of the world or as if exorcising their solutions.

The pervasive theme of these stories: how one tastes honey on the axe, is also the answer to the captivating weakness of the narrator: unable to bear the longing of silence, she heals her silence with literature.

The reader has the rare fortune of entering an heraldic world, where people exist like fragmented shades, intertwined in the narrative fabric in the enigmatic way that a musical phrase unexpectedly intrudes into a painting.

Zyranna Zateli weaves, in a novel of magical realism, the lives of the people of an (over)extended family at the end of the 19th century, playing with the dimension of time like a cat with its yarn. Passion, loss, despair, pain, and pleasure are some of the emotions of the heroes and heroines, whose stories the author narrates in a unique way, opening wide the shutters of folklore. Masterful literature, it gives the sense that no different, more appropriate words could have been used for what is described.

When we talk about contemporary Greek literature, we can only talk about Z.Z.
Magical, subtly shaded, full of images that compose a wonderful surrealistic painting embroidered with fine needlework threads weaving fairies and elves!
I adore her and recommend all of her books!

Magical, light-shadowed, full of images that compose a wonderful surrealistic embroidered painting with threads weaving fairies and elves!
(I would name the trilogy "One Hundred Years of Solitude" in its Greek version)
I adore it and recommend all of her books!
