In 2019, the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus school in Weimar was celebrated worldwide. The school, during its tumultuous 14-year journey, played a decisive role in shaping the tastes and modern aesthetics of the 20th century.

However, it was not just a school of thought for industrial design and the shaping of a timeless “machine style”, but literally a workshop for producing a new perception of the world, a workshop for producing the new era.

On the occasion of this anniversary, the Athens School of Fine Arts and the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart organized a series of events, culminating in the international conference "The Bauhaus and Greece," which took place at the Benaki Museum on Pireos Street from May 30 to June 1, 2019.

The conference featured over 60 recognized Greek and foreign experts and researchers, with selected presentations related to the reception of the Bauhaus experience in Greece and other European countries, the Middle East, and the USA, before and after World War II.

The bilingual and aesthetically pleasing volume "The Bauhaus and Greece," published with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, includes all the presentations from the conference, framed by characteristic and original illustrations.
