Description

For Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim - the members of the Thursday Murder Club - the excitement from their recent triumph has yet to calm down. Now they wish to relax in the serene environment of Cooper's Chase, the retirement village where they reside. But such luck is not in store!

An unexpected visitor - an old friend of Elizabeth, who may also be something more than a friend - arrives pleading for help. He is accused of stealing millions of pounds worth of diamonds from the wrong people and is desperately trying to escape. And then, as night follows day, a body is discovered. But it won't be the last.

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim are faced with a ruthless killer who would have no hesitation in eliminating four elderly folks. Will they manage to discover his identity in time? And, also, where are the diamonds? Do not make the mistake of underestimating the Thursday Murder Club.

For Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim – the members of the Thursday Murder Club – the excitement from their recent triumph has not yet subsided. Now they wish to relax in the serene environment of Coopers Chase, the retirement village where they reside. But no such luck!

An unexpected visitor – an old friend of Elizabeth's, who might be something more than a friend – arrives begging for help. He is accused of stealing diamonds worth millions of pounds from the wrong people and is desperately trying to escape. And then, as night turns to day, a body is discovered.

But it won't be the last. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim face a ruthless killer who would have no qualms about eliminating four elderly people. Will they manage to uncover his identity in time? And also, where are the diamonds? Don't make the mistake of underestimating the Thursday Murder Club.

Read an excerpt

“I was talking to a woman in the Ruskin Building, and she told me she was on a diet,” says Joyce, finishing the wine in her glass. “She’s eighty-two years old!”

“Pie makes you fat,” says Ron. “It’s the fault of its thin legs.”

“But why diet at eighty-two?” says Joyce. “What’s a sausage pie going to do to you? Kill you? Well, get in line.” The Thursday Murder Club has just finished its latest meeting. This week they studied the unsolved case of a newsagent from Hastings, who killed a burglar with a bow and arrow. He was arrested, but then the media got involved, and public opinion was that the man should have the right to defend his own shop with a bow and arrow, for God’s sake. And he was released, proud and unbowed.

A month or so later, the police discovered that the burglar was the boyfriend of the newsagent’s daughter, and that the newsagent had a serious criminal record for grievous bodily harm, but by that point everyone had moved on. We’re talking about 1975, after all. No CCTV, and no one to stir up any reactions.

This review is about the book: The Devil Dies Last

Nice plot, typical of this particular series which I liked a lot. However, in this book, it includes some philosophical chapters about the meaning of life that change the style of the text and make it heavier. I would have preferred if it had stayed lighter like the previous ones, since these books are meant to be read for relaxation, not for contemplation.

Also, the fact that in the translations we often see the words 'molatafta' and 'prosoras' (and in the previous books as well) is funny. They are not words used in everyday speech and they stand out. At first, they even annoyed me, "why do they talk like that?". Then I decided that since the protagonists are old, the narrator must be old too, so it's in his character and I calmed down

This review is about the book: The Thursday Murder Club

I love crime and mystery books, but this one was really exhausting to indifferent. I thought maybe it's because of the translation, but I don't think so... Many characters, too much confusion, not easy to read at all, and you often feel like the flow is lost.
