Description

The Educational Sciences represent a new scientific field with a multidisciplinary character and very different, yet interesting, forms of thought ranging from philosophical reflection to the most rigorous form of scientific research. This problematic aspect constitutes the basic characteristic of the present collective work, which is the result of collaboration among many academics from Greek and Cypriot universities.

As the professor Gaston Mialaret emphasizes in his preface, "The field of Educational Sciences is primarily multidisciplinary, and George Mavroeidis' work is a striking example of this. It is not the reflection of a single author but the contribution of specialists from different scientific fields." This work is directly linked to the eponymous subject of university study programs and we aspire for it to serve as a reference work for students of Educational Departments and active educators on issues that compose the cognitive field of Educational Sciences.

The texts included are:

Part A: Defining the field and evolution of educational sciences - Panagiotis Xohellis, "Basic scientific terms in the educational sciences" - Giannis Salvaras, "Evolution of pedagogical science"

Part B: Theoretical branches of educational sciences - Emilios Solomou, "History of ancient Greek education" - Sifis Bouzakis, "History of modern Greek education (1833 to present)" - Dimitris Matthaiou, "Comparative pedagogy: development, schools of thought, characteristics, perspectives"

Part C: Applied branches of educational sciences - Kostas Chryssafidis, "Preschool education: from custodianship to scientifically documented psycho-pedagogical intervention" - Charalambos Konstantinou, "Introduction to school pedagogy" - George G. Mavroeidis, "Higher education in the 21st century" - Dimitris Stasinus, Polyxeni Papachristou, "Special education" - Michalis Damanakis, Dionysia Kontoyanni, "The intercultural pedagogical approach: presentation of basic theoretical elements" - Giannis Salvaras, "Lifelong learning and adult education" - Mary Koutsellini, "The curriculum today: need for redefinition" - Athanasios Trilianos, "Planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching: an alternative methodological approach" - Christos Theofylidis, "Organization and administration of education: leadership behavior and its implications on the role of the school principal" - Michalis I. Vamvoukas, "Methodology of scientific pedagogical research"

Part D: Branches of educational sciences arising from collaboration with other sciences - Alexis Petrou, "Projections in the philosophy of education" - Ioannis E. Pyrgiotakis, "The sociology of education" - Achilleas Capsalis, "Pedagogical psychology: object and research methods" - Ioannis N. Kanakis, "Educational technology: teaching of media and the ability to skillfully handle information and communication media" - Eleni Karatzia - Stavlioti, Charis Lampropoulos, "Economics of education and evaluation of educational programs"

Part E: Contemporary issues of educational sciences - George E. Pasias, "European dimension in education" - George G. Mavroeidis, "Education for all: myth or reality" - Panagiotis Angelidis, Christina Chatzisotiriou, "Inclusive education" - George G. Mavroeidis, Alexis Petrou, "Education for human rights: proposals for a didactic approach" - George G. Mavroeidis, Vasiliki Selioti, "For a culture of peace and social justice" - Stamatios Alachiotis, "Introduction to the biology of learning and the new biopedagogical theory"
