The flourishing of Papadiamandian studies since the 1980s to the present day is due to the seed sown by Zissimos Lorentzatou in 1961 with his essay `Alexandros Papadiamantis Fifty Years After His Death`.
Later, in 1986, with a shorter but excellent text, he indisputably demonstrated the absolute dominance of the Skia Thessalonian short story writer over the Greek language. Today, fifty years after his inaugural writing about Papadiamantis, we are able to appreciate more accurately its fruition: without the `Papadiamandian intervention` of Z. L., the critical edition of the Complete Works of Papadiamantis, which fundamentally revived at least the publishing issue of our leading prose writer, would not exist.
Zissimos Lorentzatou, from the Ionian Islands and with a particular interest in poetry criticism, wrote extensively about Solomos, but from 1961 onward, he engaged daily with Papadiamantis, often intertwining the names of the two giants of modern Greek literature.
This book gathers all that Z. L. said about the second great `abstainer` of our language.
