The modern reality is characterized by: dramatic developments in most areas of human activity, which overturn all past conventions, the disappearance of many old professions and the emergence of new ones, requiring new knowledge and skills. Fundamental changes in the training and education systems of the workforce, through which policymakers in various countries attempt to respond to the challenges of our technically-driven era. These developments, which are expected to intensify in the coming years, are difficult for the average citizen to keep up with, who lives with the anxiety and concern caused by job insecurity and uncertainty about their professional future.
Under the pressure of this unpleasant situation, many individuals, especially young people, seek the help of Career Counselors to choose the educational and/or professional path they will follow. The unemployed, as well as many employed people who wish or need to change professions, also have similar needs. However, in order for these Counselors to provide the assistance required by citizens, they must have, among other things, a good knowledge of the theoretical background and methodology of Career Counseling and, additionally, the skills necessary to apply them in practice.
The study of this book aims to contribute to the acquisition of these knowledge and skills. At the same time, it seeks to give the reader a general overview of the evolution of methods used to assist individuals in making decisions regarding their educational and professional guidance or career change.
