Description

Description

In the book kinemo. Kinaesthetic Intelligence on Stage, authors Fotis Dousos and Alexandros Raptis share their experiences, thought processes, conclusions, and questions that have arisen – and continue to arise – throughout their journey as directors and co-creators of the Hippο Theatre Group. Their effort to define and analyze the genre of physical theater they have in some way "invented," along with the formulation of a set of principles, represents a proposal, a mindset, a perspective on things from their own point of view. It is a subjective view of theatrical practice based on experience, which they deemed necessary to share with fellow Dionysian enthusiasts who share a common perspective on the physical dimension of theater.

kinemo is a guide, a set of tools, a process through which the authors create and develop performances. These performances are characterized by intense use of the body, high energy, and frantic rhythm in an effort to "disarm" the audience's defenses with the ultimate goal of deeper communication, regardless of place, language, or society.

kinemo [=kin(esthetic) + emo(tional)] (neologism) derives from the abbreviation and combination of the words kinesthetic and emotional.

Why kinesthetic and emotional? Because we believe that the merging of these two elements (kinesthesia and emotion) plays a fundamental role in our theatrical explorations and simultaneously constitutes an ongoing pursuit of our theatrical research.
