The two-volume edition, dedicated to the memory of Charalampos Bouras, Emeritus Professor of the History of Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens, titled “HEROIC BUILDER. Studies on the historical monuments of Greece” is a collection of one hundred and twelve original scientific articles and papers, covering a thematic range that includes ancient Greek architecture and its history, Byzantine, post-Byzantine, and modern architecture, as well as the history and theory of restorations.
The editors of the publication are Manolis Korres, Stavros Mamaloukos, Kostas Zampas, and Fani Mallouchou-Tufano. The scientific committee also included Vasilios Lamprinoudakis, †S. Ćurčić, and Miltiadis Polyviou. The authors, 100 Greeks and 20 foreigners, known and established scientists, as well as younger ones with high achievements, are mostly archaeologists and architects or other engineers, with research or restoration work.
The articles have an average length of 4,000 words and most are illustrated with an average of 10 drawings and photographs. Most articles are in Greek and the rest are in English, French, German, and Italian, accompanied by summaries. The collection “HEROIC BUILDER” represents a valuable contribution to the scientific fields of historical monuments and the historical topography of Greece.
