The Mediterranean is ... the Mediterranean is ... the Mediterranean is ... There is something inexplicable that pushes us every time and will always push us to attempt to reshape the mosaic of the Mediterranean piece by piece, to compile once again the list of the forces that compose it, to ascertain the significance of each one separately, but also the value of each in relation to the others: Europe, the Maghreb, the Near and Middle East, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, the Talmud, the Bible, and the Quran, Athens and Rome, Jerusalem, Alexandria, and Constantinople, Venice and Genoa, dialectics, democracy, and the art of Greece.
The Mediterranean is not just history and does not tolerate very narrow boundaries. The Mediterranean is in a painting by Raoul Dufy a watery expanse of a blue color of indigo, with many small waves, a dense mesh of white sails, with, at one time, the gray silhouette of a steamer at its center. The Mediterranean is an immense sea, without precise boundaries, with various vague reference points, but it is also very small at the same time. It is not by chance that it is defined as a basin, but it would be better to call it a road. Is it also a road of peace?
In the texts included in this collective volume, an introspection is attempted on the geopolitical and geo-economic rearrangements and shifts of power observed in the wider Mediterranean region, and the recent academic and political dialogue is captured to the extent possible.
