This anthology of articles addresses the Greek diaspora in Australia from multiple dimensions. As a collective achievement of an international conference co-organized by the University of Athens and La Trobe University in Melbourne, it provides a prismatic perspective on the subject from expert analysts in various scientific fields.
The Greek-Australian community becomes the subject of an extensive interdisciplinary study that explores historical data, economic figures, social formations, and dimensions of culture in a synthetic manner. In the globalized migratory reality of the (post)modern era, the interpretative frameworks in the included articles reflect a universal view that aligns with the values of science and Hellenism.
From this perspective, it constitutes a contribution to local and international literature on diaspora issues. The Migration and Diaspora Research Workshop, organizationally linked to the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Political Science of the University of Athens, responsibly undertook the publication of this entire project.
With specific goals: First, to strive for comprehensive information about this important part of the Greek diaspora in Australia. Second, to substantiate the economic and social image of this diaspora and to document the manifestations of its collective life. Third, to connect the conceptual web of 'Hellenicity' with the cultural parameters of the local reality there.
Fourth, to highlight the consequences of the cultural and national identity of the Greek diaspora in Australia. Finally, to emphasize that what undoubtedly characterizes this present work is transcendence. Going beyond a typical explanatory presentation of data, the reflective interest of all those participating in this effort aimed to capture the broader conceptual frameworks of the transformation of the modern diasporic individual, with the ever-present physical and conscious mobility in space and time.
