What has made the monuments of the Athenian Acropolis famous throughout the world and unquestionably considered cultural heritage of the global community? Why do Greeks believe that they belong to them - regardless of whether they visit them regularly or not, or if they actually know them - that they are theirs, their "home," the emblem of Hellenism throughout the ages, but also of modern Greece?
Where does their beauty, their harmony, their grandeur come from, which captivate those who see them for the first time or renew, daily, the admiration of those who work on the rock?
How, even though they have been ruined, do they continue to incorporate the values and intellectual achievements of the city and the era that created them, how have all these been transformed into an inherent radiation, which makes them symbols of a culmination of what we call European or, more generally, Western way of thinking, energy, governance, living, and creation?
16 experts attempt to answer these and many other questions. Archaeologists, architects, politicians, and chemical engineers, as well as a marble stonecutter, dedicated to the study and research of the monuments of the Acropolis, to the efforts of their rescue and preservation for future generations, as well as to the work of their exhibition and interpretation for the benefit of society as a whole, approach the "Acropolis phenomenon" in various ways, each from the perspective of their expertise and field of interest, interpreting its various manifestations, highlighting or illuminating its various aspects, ultimately, making us know it.
