You eagerly desire the greater gifts. And I will show you an even more excellent way. If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And if I give away all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind; it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud; it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs; love does not rejoice in evil but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when completeness comes, what is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I reasoned as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a mirror, darkly; but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
