A composer is usually judged mainly by their compositional work as well as the impact it had on the audience of their time and on later generations. In the case of Manolis Kalomiris, however, we are dealing with the rare type of creator who manages to combine many other qualities beyond the purely artistic.
This multifaceted and industrious personality, who shook the foundations of Greece's musical life in the first half of the previous century with their ideas, vision, musical works, and dynamic interventions in almost every area related to music, has, I believe, left an indelible mark on our modern musical culture.
The fact that both their life and work - musical and otherwise - have been and continue to be subjects of research, in-depth study, and sometimes even disputes, as evidenced by this volume, confirms once again Kalomiris's significant role in our musical affairs.
