NEW SOCIOLOGY SOCIOLOGICAL REVIEW OF NEW GREECE
Anniversary collectible issue 47/2021

The scientific review NEW SOCIOLOGY was an emblematic journal with nationwide resonance, published consistently for twenty-three years (1988–2010). Its former editorial team decided to revive it specifically for the anniversary of two hundred years since the Greek Revolution and to publish a tribute to the momentous event of the National Awakening.

In the editorial note titled "Identity Bulletin," the two directors of the journal, Meletis Meletopoulos and Giannis Sakiotis, outline the theme of the issue and summarize the history of NEW SOCIOLOGY and through it, the history of the Metapolitefsi. An extensive analytical timeline of the Revolution follows by the historian Niko Yannopoulos.

In their introductory texts, Meletis Meletopoulos develops the controversial theme "The Vital Myth of Navarino" and Giannis Sakiotis provocatively argues that "Western civilization will exist as long as Greece exists." The texts of the volume examine significant aspects of the National Awakening and its era, highlighting its complex historical context, its timeless reception, and its current significance and pressing relevance.

The issue features contributions from leading intellectual figures: George Karampelias, Laokratis Basis, Kostas Stamatopoulos, Kostas Kolmer, Angelos Syrigos, Lefteris Kousoulis, Antonis Papagiannidis, George P. Malouchos, Spyros Koutroulis, Spyros Georgiou, Panos Panagopoulos, Zefyros Kavkalidis, Dimitris Stathakopoulos, Christos Baloglu, Athanasios Fotopoulos, Anastasios Mandrapilias, Fanis Malkidis, Sotiris Dimopoulos, George Tsoutsos, Nikos Koukis, and Panagiotis Pavlos.

The issue, adorned with popular songs from the Ottoman period and the Revolution, lithographs, and portraits of the era, concludes with a groundbreaking text providing a critical summary of the two centuries of Greek Independence.
