Description

Description

In the second half of the 20th century, especially after 1968, moral thinking in most Western countries was devalued and fell into disrepute. This devaluation is not only encountered in the intellectual sphere but also manifests in the everyday lives of people, with the whole movement of questioning, sexual liberation, hedonism, and daily, joyous nihilism.

The devaluation of morality has also affected Orthodox theology. The theology of the Russian diaspora and the theology of the '60s in Greece, which is largely inspired by the former, equate morality with moralism and underestimate its significance.

However, in recent years, morality has dynamically returned to the spiritual scene, but the way it exists today is different from that of the past; it is rather diffuse. It does not solely pertain to philosophical thought, nor is it a branch of it, but permeates various fields of human activity, including science, research, medicine, work, and the media.

This book places greater emphasis on Christian ethics, starting from the biblical source, which has forever defined morality in relation to the other and not in relation to the self. However, Christian ethics cannot be developed in isolation from the moral questions and philosophical ethical inquiries of our time, but through continuous engagement with them.
